Coral Pavilion

UCLA SUPRASTUDIO M.arch II

The design for this site-less pavilion is derived from a study of the ways corals aggregate in nature.

The form is shaped by the rules of DLA (Diffusion Limited Aggregation) in which stony corals form their skeletons.

The colorful and dynamic bubbles are a gesture to the coral's tissue. Research deals with studies of form of the singular aggregating unit and stacking, Aggregation in corals across multiple scales and Studies of form in a DLA based system.
